Release Discriptions:

HELLO FEVER - Hot communication 7"
Hello Fever is a three piece minimal post-punk band from Los Angeles. Consisting of a female rhythm section as well as male/female vocals, Hello Fever are melodic and dark, while maintaining a direct but angular style. Their sound references such bands as Blondie and Psychedelic Furs. This single is their debut release, as well as, a precursor to their full length LP/CD coming later this year on Sound Virus. (Sound Virus #21)

!!! - The Disease 7"
Finally re-repressed after many years of being out of print. Self proclaimed as music to "get the punks dancing." Ex-members of The Yah Mos and Popesmashers play a weird mix of funk and punk, think if The Yah Mos added James Brown to their line up. (Sound Virus #20)

THE CINEMA EYE - Some Nerve LP/CD
After two eps and US tours with The Red Light Sting and Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Cinema Eye finally complete their first full length album. Keeping in the vein of their prevous songs, TCE continue with their new wave attack that blends Sleater Kinney with the 80's sound of Berlin. Strong female vocals with melodies and choruses that make you want to sing along. Look for them on tour all throughout 2005. Available on LP and CD. (Sound Virus #19)

THE RED LIGHT STING - Hands Up, Tiger CD/gatefold LP
Finally the first full length from these Canadian New wavers. After two eps on Sound Virus and their debut split with Hot Hot Heat, The Red Light Sting have finally delivered what the kids have been asking for. Ten tracks of dancey and catchy new wave punk with quirky time changes and lots of melody. Throw The Blood Brothers and Devo into a blender and you're starting to get the idea. Vinyl comes in a beautiful gatefold cover. (Sound Virus 17)

HINT HINT - Young Days LP
This is Hint Hint's debut full length and the follow up to their six song Sex is Everything EP on Cold Crush. Young Days is eleven songs of melodic and moody dance tracks that find the band holding true to their sound, still painting a dark post-punk landscape somewhere in the vein of Psychedelic Furs, Satisfact and, at times even, The Fall. Look for Hint Hint on tour everywhere this summer with The Red Light Sting and Pretty Girls Make Graves. (Sound Virus #18)

DEATH FROM ABOVE - Romantic Rights CD/12"
The follow up to Death From Above's Heads Up LP/CD on Ache Records and a precursor to their full length coming soon on Vice Records. Death From Above are a two piece from Toronto, Canada who play rocking new wave punk made up of only bass and drums (but you would never know it.) Hipster hardcore for the new wave punks. Features ex-Black Cat 13 and Femme Fatal members. (Sound Virus #16)

THE CINEMA EYE - A Complete Arsenal LP/CD
This Columbus, Ohio quartet takes the best of 80's new wave and combines it with hints of classic hair-metal to create the dynamic tempo fluctuations, irresistibly danceable harmonies, and crunching guitar bends that characterize this record. Synth-based, melody driven bass lines and catchy modulated keyboards swarm beneath the surface of fierce, grating guitars and drums, brought together by the powerfully evocative female vocals. This is The Cinema Eye's follow up to their split 10"/cd with Audion that was released on Sound Virus in early 2003. This recording is still filled with hooks but makes more of an attempt to possibly merging the worlds of such bands like Sleater Kinney with Milemarker or Camera Obscura, making The Cinema Eye's sound relentless rock and roll as told by Missing Persons. Look for an LP/CD coming on Sound Virus in late 2003. (Sound Viruse #15)

A TRILLION BARNACLE LAPSE - Black Lava 12"/CD
Sound Virus' latest edition to its roster is A Trillion Barnacle Lapse from Providence, Rhode Island. Here A Trillion Barnacle Lapse return with an 8 song release which is a follow up to their full length that was released last year on Level Plane Records. Black Lava delivers a mixture that brings together sounds of bands like Tristeza, The Cure and even moments of early PIL, creating a soundtrack that is truly unlike anything else coming out these days. You can see the progression in their music, as it still holds onto its hardcore roots but now adds an even more synth sound. Thus at times making their music seem layered with an almost spacey feel, giving you an idea what The Cure might have sounded like if they were just starting out as a band today. Look for an additional LP/CD coming later this year on Sound Virus. (Sound Virus #14)

THE CINEMA EYE/AUDION - split 10" or CD
The Cinema Eye and Audion are Columbus, Ohio's latest additions to the synth-punk sound as well as to the newest bands to join the Sound Virus roster. The Cinema Eye play electro-snap post punk with confidence and sass, and Audion are something like Camera Obscura meets Subtonix electro aggressiveness. The Cinema Eye are known for the extreme catchiness of their near-pop melodies, guitars dripping with gritty spunk and the occasional hint of an 80's new wave sensibility, all topped off with female vocals comparable to those of Sleater-Kinney by their relentless power and deceptively sweet harmonies. Audion represents the more dissonant side of the spectrum with an electronic onslaught that creates a densely discordant sound, much like Braniac or Satisfact. Growlingly shrill guitars coupled with speaker-rumbling sub bass and abrasive, melody-driven keyboards are at the center of Audion's core. Both bands have forthcoming records on Sound Virus in 2003. (Sound Virus #13)

LIARS - We No Longer Knew Who We Were 12"/CD
The latest of Brooklyn's music makers to create a big stir. A total of three songs recorded prior to their full length "They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top". Here the Liars gleefully mash up a number of eras, including punk, hip-hop, and new wave. Their performance is energetic, chaotic and very, very loud. With short, choppy riffs and bottle-breaking drumbeats which together create a dynamic, rhythmic snarl. That's when everything breaks; the bass jives in a fortified funk; drums kick forcefully, the vocal tone shifts from robotic drone to spastic wail. It's a dramatic, exacting chaos, chock full of the kind of political punch that has earned the group references from such acts as Gang of Four and The Pop Group. With attractive artwork available both as a special clear Fan CD, and One sided 12" with a poster included. Description by Brian Hand Held Heart. (Sound Virus #11/Hand Held Heart #17)

THE SICK LIPSTICK - LP/CD
If the Go-Go's had let Darby Crash join their band, I think they might have sounded a lot like The Sick Lipstick. Hailing from Ontario Canada, The Sick Lipstick are composed of half of what made up the short lived but ever so popular Black Cat #13. Musically they are not far off from their previous band, still with female vocals, keyboards and dancey drum beats. A combination of early Kill Rock Stars stuff like Bikini Kill and Huggy Bear mixed with the sounds of newer bands like The Subtonix and Errase Errata. Description by Mike Soundvirus. (Soundvirus #12)

THE RED LIGHT STING - Our Love Is Soaking In It! LP/CD
Five new tracks by these Canadian new wavers. This is The Red Light Sting's follow up to their Rub 'em Down, Rub 'em Out 12" that came out on Sound Virus last year. These five songs find the band still writing quirky yet catchy songs with lots of keyboards, time changes, and just enough melody to make you want to dance. A sound that falls somewhere between The Blood Brothers and The Rapture. This is the new wave! (Sound Virus #10)

PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES - Sad Girls Por Vida 7"
Three new tracks by this Seattle favorite. This record has been long delayed and highly anticipated, it is also part of a three 7" collaboration which has resulted in one 7" on each of the following labels: Sound Virus, Dim Mak, and Hand Held Heart. The three covers were designed together so when you put them along side one another, they connect to make one complete cover. (Sound Virus #9)

BLOOD BROTHERS - Ruumors Laid Waste 10"
This 10" features old Blood Brothers tracks that are no longer available. There are songs from the split 7"s with Milemarker and Stilleto, as well as the songs from the debut Blood Brothers 7", a track from the Destroy New Granada comp LP, and one unreleased track. (Sound Virus)

SONG OF ZARATHUSTRA - 2 Song EP 7"
WARNING: Your record is NOT damaged!! Song of Zarathustra is merely attempting to damage your hearing with a vicious attack of noise and volume. Two songs here, thus the title, and a shit load of noise. They do a Social Distortion cover, though if they didn't mention it on the lyric sheet it might go unnoticed. (Sound Virus/Hand Held Heart)

DESTROY NEW GRANADA - comp LP
This one sided LP compilation features tracks from The Blood Brothers, Dead And Gone, This Machine Kills, Harum Scarum, Talk Is Poison, Hail Mary, Palatka, The DGO, and the Red Scare. The other side is silk screened, and the comp comes with a nice booklet with lyrics as well as contributions from various DIY scenesters. Very nice. (Sound Virus #6)

PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES - 12"
Four tracks from Murder City Devils, Death Wish Kids, Killsadie spin off band. The vocalist has a strong voice that is very similar to Bikini Kill's Kathleen Hanna. Actually, Pretty Girls Make Graves seems like a shoe in for Kill Rock Stars; punk rock with catchy songs and very strong female vocal work. Good stuff. (Sound Virus #5)

THE RED LIGHT STING - Rub 'Em Out LP or CD
No wave meets Antioch Arrow with keyboards and plenty of craziness. This is the exact sort of thing that one would expect from some of the cool 'n hip G.S.L. releases. Modern day no wave. Yow! Time to party! (Sound Virus #4)

LAST MATCH - 1997 to 1999 LP
Last Match was from Sweden and they released a fantastic 7" as well as a split 7" with Switchblade. They were heavily influenced by Born Against and their sound was powerful, aggressive, and memorable with great lyrics and vocals. This discography LP includes all of their released tracks as well as fifteen unreleased tracks, and it comes with a great looking booklet that includes lyrics and art from this awesome hardcore outfit. (Sound Virus Records #3)

RED SCARE/TRUE NORTH - split 7"
Hopscotch Records recently changed their name to Sound Virus Records, and this is the first new release to come out on the new label. Red Scare and True North are a good combination. Both bands play modern day hardcore that is influenced by the chaotic and frantic, though the Red Scare song is a bit mellower than some of their previous material (after all it is a Real Life cover). (Sound Virus Records #2)

THE BLOOD BROTHERS - This Adultery Is Ripe LP
Hailing from the Pacific North West, The Blood Brothers have put together a full length with 10 songs clocking in at just under 23 minutes. Slower Antioch Arrow influenced hardcore with a chaotic edge and very bizarre lyrics about sex and doctor love is one way to view the freak out of The Blood Brothers. Bizarre. The Blood Brothers will be doing a US Tour this summer with Orchid and the Red Scare. (Sound Virus Records #1)
