WOW, OWLS! - Pick Your Patterns CD
A year after recording their "Mind Explosion" demo Richmond, Virginia's Wow, Owls! return in full force with their debut full length album, "Pick Your Patterns." Fronted by the energetic and poignant Jeffrey Byers (former bassist from Light The Fuse & Run), these five young men explode onward with nine dynamic passages of furious rock and fragile post-hardcore. They have received comparisons to to their Virginia predecessors, City Of Caterpillar and Sleepytime Trio, but equally evoke the passion and grit of genre pioneers, Antioch Arrow, Heroin and Portraits of Past. Includes a beautifully crafted, 12 page full color booklet designed by collage extraordinaire Adam Juresko, who has done album artwork by bands such as Stop It!!, Pink Razors, Life At These Speeds and Van Johnson. (Perpetual Motion Machine #9)
SWEETHEART - Art Is Dead Is Dead CD
The Perpetual Motion Machine is proud to present the debut cd release for Kent, Ohio's Sweetheart. A young and uncompromising band, who in the footsteps of highly influential Ohio pioneers, Harriet The Spy and Party Of Helicopters, have graced us with a powerful, haunting and dynamic post-hardcore ep. Fueled by dueling, technical guitar dialogue and soaring vocal harmonies, this young quartet reveal their frantic and discordant blend of punk, hardcore and indie rock. This six song disc collects their hard to find self released 7", four previously unreleased tracks and a plethora of enhanced live video features. All tracks have been carefully remastered by punk/metal godfather, Scott Hull at Visceral Sound (PG.99, Pig Destroyer). Serious nods to notable bands such as Party Of Helicopters, Hot Cross and The Red Scare, in addition to hints of influence from early Gravity and Troubleman Unlimited releases. (The Perpetual Motion Machine #8)
STOP IT! - Self Made Maps LP
Repressed! The debut full-length, "Self Made Maps", from Richmond, VA's Stop It!! is an undeniably catchy take on dark and dynamic rock music. Going from harsh and frantic to melodic and stoned-out, this LP shows a raw young band with multiple personalities, all overlaid with shouted vocals and the occasional burst of beautiful harmonies. To put it in short terms, this is some quite unique and totally genre-bending rock for fans of everything in between Shotmaker, Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu and Planes Mistaken For Stars. Beautifully cut and pasted collage layout by bassist, Adam Juresko housed in full color jacket with full color insert. CD format on Robotic Empire. (Perpetual Motion Machine #4)
SNACKTRUCK - Harpoon CD
In a wall of screaming guitar and a thunderous movement of manic drumming, this Philadelphian dynamic duo presents their debut full length, documenting their edgy and intricate avant-garde metallic rock. Eleven tracks, clocking in at just under thirty minutes, takes you on a wild and obsessive journey all the way up to its self destructive and apocalyptic end. Fans of Lightning Bolt, Hella and other experimental, balls to the wall heavy music will find this a most delicious listen. Snacktruck also shares a member with fellow Philadelphia sonic rockers, Ultra Dolphins. (Perpetual Motion Machine #6)
LIFE AT THESE SPEEDS - LP
Life At These Speeds debut nearly forty minutes of their infectiously catchy and urgent hardcore rock with this amazing self titled full length. At times heavy and at other times very much melodic, this Portland, Oregon based four piece never ceases to hold your attention. With an ambient and jazzy instrumental track as an interlude between the first and second parts of this journey, Life At These Speeds present an an epic and driving classic. People who are remotely interested in the sounds of Shotmaker, Drive Like Jehu, Rites Of Spring and Twelve Hour Turn will be instant fans of this record. First pressing in beautifully silkscreened chipboard jackets, with fantastic artwork from Adam Juresko of Stop It!!. Split 7" with California's End On End coming out in the near future. CD format available on Grey Sky Records. (Perpetual Motion Machine #5)
THE SOUTH - Sick Pits Bro Sesh 7"
A quick and urgent four song followup to the debut LP from this Floridian trio. Chaotic and dynamic hardcore, layering screamed vocals, jangly guitar work, machine gun drumming, and a thick wall of bass. References have been made to Palatka, Eurich, End Of The Century Party and Assfactor 4, but these dudes cover all that ground and more with this solid, raging ep. (Perpetual Motion Machine #3)
DAVID DONDERO/CHRIS TERRY - split CD
An exciting CD of contemporary folk music split between two unique voices. Tireless road warrior David Dondero continues to combine his soft, subtle yet interesting guitar work, jangly and wandering singing voice, and great knack for a story song. Chris Terry, vocalist for Virginia's Light The Fuse And Run, brings a touch of punk to his on point folk rock stylings. Limited to 500 copies, these come in handsome gatefold sleeves. (Perpetual Motion Machine #2)
CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE/PAGE NINETY NINE - split 7"
After the demo and before the amazingly crushing "As The Roots Undo" full length, Circle Takes The Square recorded two brutal tracks for this split with the mighty Page Ninty Nine. As the final recording and funeral for the now defunct Page Ninty Nine, their side takes a dark, blood curdling journey into the depths of self destruction. A unique and interesting departure for the highly influential and infamous Pg.99. Originally released in August 2002, this third pressing is limited to 350 copies. (Perpetual Motion Machine #1)
